Dr. Emma Cooke
Mrs. Brown is the founder of Principles Before Personalities, a non-profit organization dedicated to the education and treatment of individuals with substance abuse issues. She has been a Certified Addictions Professional in DeKalb County for the past 20 years, and has been a licensed addictions counselor for the past 10 years. She has extensive experience and training in treating adolescents and adults with substance abuse problems. Mrs. Brown also has specialized training and experience in parenting and marital issues, anger management and life skills. She has dedicated her life to helping people overcome their substance abuse problems, and their accompanying life issues. During her tenure at Right Side Up Women’s Residential Center, she served as a program coordinator, addiction counselor, and case manager. During this time she developed positive working relationships with local attorneys, judges and probation officers. She brings her outstanding reputation in Metro-Atlanta, as well as her wealth of knowledge and experience in the field of addiction at Cooke Holistic Health.
She is a graduate of Ashford University and is lead addiction counselor and director of all substance abuse treatment services at Cooke. Her services include, but are not limited to individual and group counseling, anger and stress management, addiction education, relapse prevention, case management, completing substance abuse assessments, developing, implementing, evaluating, and revising treatment goals and plans in conjunction with the treatment team.
Mrs. Brown has had the opportunity to help numerous clients and their families work through their problems with drugs and alcohol. She specializes in the provision of individual, group and family therapy, and has provided these therapies in both an outpatient and hospital setting. She has also worked closely with Fulton Drug Court as a liaison to the court, providing assessment and treatment recommendations for individuals suffering from co-occurring disorders.
Therapeutically, Mrs. Brown employs an eclectic approach utilizing evidence-based practices proven in facilitating the change process in the lives of those dealing with addictions. These practices include Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Stages of Change Model, Solution Focused Therapy and the Twelve Step Model. It is her belief that the change process occurs differently for everyone and a key to success is to match the appropriate technique or combination of techniques with the individual seeking help. She is gifted in her ability to connect with the individuals she works with through the creation of a partnership grounded in trust and mutual respect. By creating a safe, warm and empathic space, coupled with the skilled application of the above techniques, Mrs. Brown has been extremely successful in helping individuals overcome their addictions and the many problems that accompany them, whether interpersonal, educational, familial, relational, occupational or financial.
